Naturopathic Medicine Q & A:

What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic Medicine is the art and science of treating the root cause of disease. Through integrating multiple modalities based on individualized needs, Naturopathic Medicine aims to restore optimal health by supporting the natural healing process of the body. Naturopathic Medicine utilizes lifestyle interventions such as nutritional therapy, botanical medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, and orthomolecular medicine among many other tools.

What training do Naturopathic Doctors have?

Registered Naturopathic Doctors must undergo a minimum of 7 years of post-secondary education and training. This includes a minimum 3-year undergraduate degree and a 4-year postgraduate program at one of the six accredited Naturopathic Medical Schools in North America. Naturopathic Doctors must complete North American Board Exams to be licensed in North America and additional prescribing exams based on their jurisdiction of practice. In British Columbia, Naturopathic Doctors are qualified primary care doctors and are trained as general practitioners. They have access to a range of diagnostic testing and conventional therapies.

What sets Naturopathic Doctors apart?

Naturopathic Doctors are trained to view the body as an interconnected ecosystem when identifying and treating the root cause of disease. They take into account the emotional, physical, and mental aspects of an individual and aim to heal the underlying dysfunction present in the body that is contributing to each illness. Naturopathic Medicine integrates ancient wisdom and the latest cutting-edge research to rebalance the body and create optimal wellness for each individual.
